It involves accepting and dealing calmly and effectively with unexpected or stressful situations. Humans are characterized by the ability to absorb changes and different approaches and situations, which change the current state of their emotional, physical or working environment.
As a definition, resilience is the ability of a system to adjust its functioning prior to, during, or following changes and disturbances, so that it can sustain required operations under both expected and unexpected conditions. Being resilient means remaining a thriving enterprise despite the emerging challenges. Specifically, this ability to bounce back is the ability to bend instead of breaking when under pressure or difficulty.
In other words, resilience is a core competency for stress management! The term can be defined also, as the ability of being aware of your situation, your risks, weak points and potentials to deal with them and make strategic decisions.
Resilience is an individual’s ability to adapt positively to pressure, setbacks, challenges and change, to achieve and sustain peak personal effectiveness. Resilient people won’t wallow or dwell on failures, but quickly acknowledge, learn and move on from them. Evidence shows that high levels of resilience can deliver valuable results for individuals. E.g. quick to solve problems, reduced stress, improved work performance, developed positive attitudes and sustained high levels of well-being and happiness.
